Schubert in CONTEXT

Stephanie returns to Houston's famed series.

Program
Fantasy in F minor for piano four hands
Piano Trio in B-flat Major

For CONTEXT’s musicians, Schubert’s astonishing music seems to get younger and more compelling with each passing year, offering absolutely relevant insight, vision, and solace to our difficult world. His majestic B-flat Trio is a beacon of humanity and grace; and the magical F Minor Fantasy is a gift to the soul. Hear these miracles on original string instruments and our world-class Vaughn Graf piano, built by the famed Conrad Graf in Schubert’s Vienna—while Schubert was composing this music! Stephanie is joined by pianist Brian Connelly, cellist Michael Kannen, and pianist Kimi Kawashiwa.

Sarasate and Mendelssohn with String Orchestra of the Rockies

Stephanie performs Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in D Minor and her own arrangement of Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen

Stephanie takes center stage as soloist with the SOR in the charming early Mendelssohn d minor concerto, as well as the dazzling “Ziguenerweisen” (Gypsy Airs) of Pablo de Sarasate. In February of 2019, the SOR’S performance of Stephanie’s fiery “A Fantasy about Carmen” brought down the house, and we are excited to have her come to Missoula as we close our 35th season of spectacular concerts. The program celebrates two other popular American musicians: the beloved George Gershwin in his “Lullaby” for strings and Oregonian composer and violist Kenji Bunch, whose jazzy “String Circles” closes our April concert. It’s a dazzling season finale, full of vibrancy and virtuosity! The concert begins at 7:30 pm in the recital hall of the Music Building at the University of Montana in Missoula.
